I’m back from SI Swimsuit launch week in Miami — thank you to Brett Smiley for taking over while I was gone. I’ll have more on the Miami excursion in PM Clicks. Meanwhile, the legendary Hulk Hogan returned to the ring last night to promote the launch of the WWE Network (also known as porn for pro wrestling fans). The Camel Clutch Blog looks back at Hogan’s top WWF feuds, while Brandon Stroud discusses the comeback.

Several people emailed me this photo of a Sixers fan passed out in the front row during last night’s game and it’s hard to blame him. The Sixers lost by 20, at home, to the Bucks (a.k.a. – the NBA’s worst team). So for all the ailing Philly fans out there, I present a young Charles Barkley gliding past Larry Bird on his way to the hoop.

Partying With Rajon Rondo

Celtics guard Rajon Rondo is under fire for skipping the team’s trip to Sacramento so he could stay in Los Angeles and celebrate his birthday (though he wasn’t scheduled to play in the game). It seems odd to me that the team didn’t scold him in private and tell the media that it was an excused absence, but Rondo has also been on the trading block since 2009, so what do I know?

With all this talk of Rondo and partying, I felt compelled to bust out these never-before-seen photos from 2008 of the Celtics guard enjoying a day at the skating rink with some young friends.

Charles Barkley In College

Auburn’s War Eagle Reader uncovered this great video of Charles Barkley in college discussing his favorite nicknames including “Sir Loin”, “Boy Gorge”, “The Round Mound of Rebound” and (my personal favorite), “The Leaning Tower of Pizza.” SI’s Alexander Wolff visited Auburn in March 1984 to profile Barkley and his improbable rise to stardom:

“In three seasons Barkley has become a mythic figure in the SEC—larger than life and just about everything else. At Tennessee, someone dressed as a Domino’s Pizza deliveryman approached Barkley in the pregame layup line to take his order. Kentucky forward Winston Bennett calls Barkley ’a cartoon character.’ Says Auburn assistant coach Mack McCarthy, ‘He loves LSU fans best of all because they’re so nasty.’

The preferred epithet in Baton Rouge is Fat Boy. But you could construct a thesaurus entry of the nicknames Barkley has inspired in his travels: Bread Truck, the Love Boat, Food World, the Crisco Kid, the Wide Load from Leeds, Ton of Fun, the Leaning Tower of Pizza, the Goodtime Blimp and the prevailing Round Mound of Rebound are just a few. ‘He’s my favorite player in college basketball,’says Oklahoma’s Wayman Tisdale, who played withBarkley at the Sports Festival. ‘I call him the Eighth Wonder of the World.’”

Michael Jordan, Trash Talk Extrordinaire

Michael Jordan is known for talking trash on the basketball court but it also extends off the hardwood. Golfer Ian Poulter debuted his Sirius/XM show this week and told a story about MJ trying to psych him out during the 2012 Ryder Cup. Jordan served as advisor to the U.S. team that year.

Johnny Manziel Fan Club

I can say with confidence that former LLOD Lauren Hanley is a member of the Johnny Manziel Fan Club and may even be dating the former Aggies quarterback. One person who isn’t a fan is former Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer, who called Manziel “an arrogant little pr**k” during an appearance on on CBS Sports Radio in St. Louis Wednesday morning. Switzer then removed his pants, grabbed a beer and laughed maniacally.

Hot Clicks Q&A: Chris Bosh

Chris Bosh :: Peter Gregoire/SI

Chris Bosh :: Peter Gregoire/SI

Chris Bosh isn’t just a basketball player. The Heat center guest starred as Heimdall (Asgardian warrior-god and guardian of the rainbow bridge) in Sunday’s episode of Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. We caught up with Bosh to discuss his new endeavor, Parks and Rec, SI Swimsuit and that photo of him in a cowboy outfit.

Hot Clicks: Thanks for giving me a few minutes, Chris. Tell me how you got involved with Marvel.

Chris Bosh: I have a great agency, CAA. I guess they pulled some strings for me. I got the chance to auditon and I was fortunate enough to be chosen. I’m very, very excited.

Hot Clicks: I read that you want to do voiceover work. Is that something you still want to pursue?

Chris Bosh: Absolutely. I’ve been pursuing it for a year and a half now. People keep telling me I have a good voice so I want to see if I can turn that into something.

Hot Clicks: You play with the best player in the world, LeBron James. When it comes to the end of games and a possible game-winning shot, does your coach bother calling a play in the huddle or does everyone just know the ball is going to LeBron?

Chris Bosh: Well, you can draw up a play but very seldom are you going to get a guy open in an easy-to-read situation. At the end of games, guys just have to make plays and LeBron is the best at that.

Hot Clicks: What’s it been like playing with Greg Oden this year? I get the feeling you guys are genuinely pulling for him.

Chris Bosh: We’re all happy for him. I couldn’t imagine how tough it would be being away from the game as long as it was for him. He’s working extremely hard every day. They had to bring him along slowly and everything but now he’s in position where he can get consistent minutes and I think he’s going to help us a lot. When all is said and done, he’ll make some plays for us and he’ll be one of the reasons we’re successful in the future.

Hot Clicks: What’s he like off the court?

Chris Bosh: He doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t say a word. He’s very quiet.

Hot Clicks: How about The Bird Man [Chris Anderson]? Is he quiet?

Chris Bosh: Bird is a social guy. He talks a lot. We’re both from Texas so we stick together. He’s a good dude — loves playing basketball and having a good time. Whether you want to hang out or get something to eat, he’s always there.

Hot Clicks: So I always get a huge reaction when I post your cowboy photo on my Twitter feed. Tell me about that day.

Chris Bosh: That was in New Orleans. It was my idea. It just comes from a lot more free time. I didn’t have a family back then and was having fun. The pressures of winning wasn’t as great back then and I had some free time to do things. I just wanted to show my creative side a little it, make people laugh and have a good time.

Hot Clicks: Has your wife seen that?

Chris Bosh: No. Just in the pictures.

Hot Clicks: It looks like you’ll face off against Indiana again for the Eastern Conference crown. Do you find yourself more sore after playing against Roy Hibbert and David West than other players?

Chris Bosh: Yeah, definitely. A tough physical team like they are – you’re going to feel it. That’s what it’s about. the battles, the competition. Every possession you have to work — every loose ball, every rebound. They’re a very good team and the best competition in the East right now.

Hot Clicks: Have you ever met Larry Bird?

Chris Bosh: No, I have not.

Hot Clicks: Moving on, you appeared in an episode of Parks and Recreation. What was that like?

Chris Bosh: It was awesome. I’ve watched the show, of course, and it was surreal being there. You get to go behind the scenes and see how everything is made. It was just really, really cool and I’m really glad they invited me. I think it came out pretty good.

Hot Clicks: I saw a video where Aubrey Plaza discusses how went undercover and tried to be your hair stylist on the show and and you didn’t realize.

Chris Bosh: I came to find out after — I wasn’t up on the joke. To be honest, I was kinda nervous. I was about to be on Parks and Rec so I wasn’t really paying attention to the hair lady. I kept saying “I’m fine.” I just wanted to get in there and deliver my lines right.

Hot Clicks: The SI Swimsuit issue just came out. Do you have a favorite swimsuit model – past or present?

Chris Bosh: I do not. I was never into models. We couldn’t afford the SI edition when I was little. It was just something you looked at on the shelf and kept on moving.

Dirk Imitates Arnold

The Mavs forward visited The Dan Patrick Show and busted out his Arnold Schwarzenegger impression.

It Was 20 Years Ago Today

On this day in 1994, Michael Jordan made his MLB debut, going 0-for-1 in a spring training game for the White Sox. The baseball thing never exactly panned out for Jordan, as SI’s Steve Wulf explains in the lead of his famous March 1994 cover story “Err Jordan.”

“He called the first base umpire “the ref.” In the field, he played a single into a double and an out into a single. Though he moves well on the base paths, his best time to first base, 4.35 seconds, is slower than average. At bat he brings to mind a taller, righthanded Rich Gedman—the Walt Hriniak disciple who can no longer hit the ball out of the infield.

At least he has provided baseball people with a conversation starter this spring. Barely concealing their sneers, the scouts and players and writers ask one another, “Have you seen him?” They are not talking about Oddibe McDowell. They are talking, of course, about the rightfield hopeful for the Chicago White Sox, 31-year-old Michael Jordan.

Granted, he looks good in a baseball uniform. Granted, he is the greatest basketball player who has ever lived. Granted, a few weeks of batting practice, an intrasquad game and two exhibitions against the Texas Rangers are not a lot to go on. But this much is clear: Michael Jordan has no more business patrolling rightfield in Comiskey Park than Minnie Minoso has bringing the ball upcourt for the Chicago Bulls.”

On The Bright Side

Things still worked out for Jordan, despite his struggles on the baseball diamond. He earned more in 2013 ($90 million) than every other active athlete besides Floyd Mayweather Jr. and just had twins with new wife Yvette. Also of note, his trademark Air Jordans have been reimagined as high-end fashion brands.

Dominique Is Not Impressed

Reactions are still pouring in from LeBron James’ mesmerizing 61-point performance as everyone from NFL star Adrian Peterson to ESPN trollmaster Skip Bayless have praised King James. Everyone except Dominique Wilkins, that is. The former Hawks legend reminded everyone that the explosion came against the Bobcats, “a sub 500 team with a match up nightmare” and that “it isn’t just about slow rotations & poor closeouts. Who made Bron work on the other end w/ Henderson hurt and Al carrying the team?”

Normally I’d call out Wilkins for being the only person (besides Kobe Bryant’s crazy fans) who wasn’t impressed with LeBron. Dominique, however, was my favorite player growing up so I put together a photo gallery instead.

That Was Fun

Bad news for Knicks fans who hoped Chris Smith would be recalled from the D-League and save the season. It isn’t going to happen. J.R’s younger brother packed up and left the Erie BayHawks, the Knicks’ D-League affiliate, because he wasn’t getting enough playing time. Many believe nepotism was at play from the start and Chris never would’ve made the D-League if not for his brother. Hate the Knicks? Good News

A group called “Knicks Fan for Life” have planned a protest outside Madison Square Garden on March 19.

This Seems Appropriate

Ten years ago this week, SI featured high school phenom Sebastian Telfair on its cover and profiled emerging Lightning star Martin St. Louis, who was traded to the Rangers today for Ryan Callahan and picks. This is the first paragraph of Michael Farber‘s story:

The queue started at Claiborne, snaked past Polo and deked toward the Estee Lauder counter before swinging wide to pass fine jewelry. The four-day-long ‘take an extra 25% off already reduced price’ sale was on at Dillard’s in Tampa, and while you couldn’t dismiss the allure of the discounted merchandise, the 500 people lined up in the store on this Friday night were there to see Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis (mar-TAN san lou-EE). Dillard’s had set up a table in the men’s department—although it should have been the boys’ department if you agree with the gibes directed at St. Louis on the ice—for the player’s monthly half-hour radio show and autograph session. Among the fans waiting cheerfully for his arrival was Bianca DiPronio, a junior at Tampa Catholic High. Why? Like, hel-lo. ‘The guy’s adorable,’ says Bianca. ‘He’s so short you can always find him on the ice right away. He’s such a good player, and so cute.’”

Chelsea Handler, take a bow. The Chelsea Lately host appeared on The Howard Stern Show yesterday and shared this story about Alex Rodriguez. Apparently, the suspended Yankee third baseman ran into Handler and asked why she always makes fun of him on her show. She replied, “Get away from me, you’re disgusting.” The persistent A-Rod then complimented Handler and said that he’s a big fan of her books. Her reply: “I don’t know why you’re a big fan. Tales From the Greek Freak

Giannis Antetokounmpo has quickly become the NBA’s most lovable rookie. The Bucks forward, who hails from Athens and has taken on the moniker The Greek Freak, was profiled in this week’s SI. Luckily, he was picked up by a couple a mile before the arena, gave him a ride the rest of the way.

Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson turned down an offer to coach the Knicks, but is open to a front office position, according to the NY Daily News. If Jackson takes the gig and somehow returns the Knicks to prominence, a showdown against the Heat and president Pat Riley would be a good time.

It was senior night at Nebraska on Sunday, and Mike Peltz decided to make it a memorable one. The Cornhuskers reserve guard got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend in front of a packed crowd. Though she doesn’t appear to say yes, the big hug, tears and ring on her finger indicates a positive response.

Way Too Many Men on the Ice

According to Rule 74 of the NHL Official Rulebook, Five players (in addition to the goalie) are allowed on the ice at once and “players may be changed at any time during the play from the players’ bench provided that the player or players leaving the ice shall be within five feet (5′) of his players’ bench and out of the play before the change is made.” Florida was a bit confused by the rule during Sunday’s game against Boston when they were caught with 11 (yes, 11) players on the ice at once.

Dumb Tweet of the Week

Minnesota State Representative Pat Garofalo sent out a tweet last night saying, “Let’s be honest, 70% of teams in NBA could fold tomorrow + nobody would notice a difference w/ possible exception of increase in street crime.” When contacted later by Deadspin, he explained his logic by pointing out that the NBA has a high arrest rate and that its punishment for drug tests is weaker than other leagues. So now it all makes sense, I guess.

Lovely Lady Of The Day

Clara Alonso has a new set of lingerie photos out, which seems like a very good reason to make her today’s LLOD.

New Sport Alert: Goldsprints

The term “sport” may be a stretch but Goldsprints is coming to a bar near you. The premise is simple: two people get on stationary bikes that are set on a metal frame with the front wheels removed. Music starts, the bikers bike and a computer program tracks their progress while a giant screen shows who is in the lead. Fifteen seconds, the race is over, a winner is declared and the next two people compete.

Feel-Good Video Of The Day

I mentioned the story of 12-year-old New Zealand native Louis Corbett, who is going blind due to a genetic eye disease called retinitus pigmentosa, in Hot Clicks a couple weeks ago as Corbett prepared for his trip to Boston to attend a Celtics game. The visit happened last week and Extra Mustard has all the details.

Cows are Smart

I never spent much time thinking about the intelligence of cows but this video makes a good case.
